How to setup prices in square footage

Question: Our FBO defines prices per Square Feet. How do we handle this in FBO One?

Answer:

In this article we will outline how to

  1. Define a custom property on the aircraft type table, to hold the square feet
  2. How to define and view a report to list the square feet per aircraft type
  3. How to define a product with price agreements that reference the square footage to create price bands

Define a custom property on the aircraft type table, to hold the square feet

Create a custom property 'Square footage'. Go to Menu | Administration | Custom Values.

  • The allow dynamic inserts flag allows the user to enter the value directly in the aircraft type screen without the having to pre-define each value.
  • The validation expression ^\d{1,10}$ asserts that only digits are entered. An explanation on the validation expression can be found on stack overflow
  • The Is visible in order screen flag will make sure that the square footage of the aircraft is displayed in the order screen. This can be seen in action in the sample order at the end of this document.

Now, it is possible to enter the square feet in the Edit Aircraft Type page, as per the below screen shot.

How to define and view a report to list the square feet per aircraft type

To review the square feet assigned to each aircraft type, it is best to define a custom report that includes the square footage custom value. This is done as per below.

In Adminstration | Reports, Add a new report named 'Aircraft type square footage':

Link it to the aircraft types query:

Add the name column as column 0:

Add a column 'Custom value' as column 1, and select the square footage property as the custom property:

Authorize access to the report in Menu | Report Access

Run the report from the Reports menu in the top-level menu bar.

How to define a product with price agreements that reference the square footage to create price bands

There are number of options to use the custom value in price calculations

  • Use the custom value in a custom unit price formula. You could for instance multiply the price of your service with the value of the custom property to obtain the final unit price. How to do this is outlined in this article.
  • Assign the square footage to the quantity of the order line. Based on this quantity, you can define price agreements that apply per price band, for example from quantity 0 to 500, from 501 to 1000, and so on. For this, you have to assign the Custom Value Calculator to the product. Below is outline how to setup a product that uses this calculator.

Create the product:

Assign the calculator to the product:

Enter your price agreement:

For example, enter a price that is valid up to 500 feet, up to 1000 feet, and one for above:

Add the product as a service to an order and review the result:
